Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer in-person therapy?
I provide telehealth (virtual) services only to clients who live in Texas and Washington, DC. Virtual sessions are more convenient and work best for those with mild to moderate symptoms. More intensive services may be required and if so I will refer clients to a more suitable therapist.
How will I know if you are the right therapist for me?
I offer a free 20-minute consultation to determine if we are a good fit for each other. I say finding a therapist is like dating, the first session can feel like “first date vibes”. However, the only way to really know is to start your sessions. If at any point, you are not feeling like a match with me, it is ok to let me know!
Who do you work with?
My background is working with pregnant / postpartum women and their families; however, I see high-performing women who struggle with career and life transitions, mood and anxiety disorders, self-worth and perfectionism. I tend to relate to many of the experiences my clients are experiencing. I do not work with couples or minors.
What can I expect from therapy?
Therapy is a vulnerable and collaborative space for you to explore things that you are struggling with. I am not here to solve your problems, rather, I am here to help you learn what works for you and what serves you. Therapy usually begins as weekly sessions, but the frequency will decrease as we see improvement and you are meeting your treatment plan goals. I will do an assessment at intake and monitor your progress over an agreed timeframe. If you are not seeing improvement in your wellbeing or feeling connected to the process, please let me know so we can come up with a plan!
What happens during the first session?
The first session can feel like a “first date”, but this is normal, I encourage you to remain consistent and embrace the new and different. You’ll have an opportunity to share about your life and I’ll ask some questions to get an understanding of how you’re feeling and how I can best support you. The first session is a little longer than the rest, usually lasting about 1 hour.
How long are the sessions?
Session times can range from 38-52 minutes or 53-60 minutes, depending on how long we need to discuss information. These ranges typically have different billing codes so you may see a higher amount for the 53-60 range. If you are private pay, sessions usually last 60 minutes.
What is your cancellation policy?
I require a minimum of 24 hours before the scheduled appointment to cancel. If you cancel within 24 hours notice, you will be charged $80 for a late cancellation and $160 for a no-show/ no cancellation.
Do you prescribe medication?
No, I am not a medical doctor or psychiatrist. I offer non-medication talk therapy services. However, I do work in collaboration with professionals who prescribe medication and can provide referrals for medication management. The best results are when medication management and talk therapy go hand-in-hand.
What if I'm out of network?
If you are out of network, you can submit a claim to your insurance plan for reimbursement.
What is a Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C)?
A PMH-C is a specialist who is formally trained and has experience with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. This certification requires additional testing and experience with the perinatal population covering topics specific to their needs.
Do you offer clinical supervision for new therapists?
Guidance and clinical supervision for new therapists will be available Fall 2024. However you may fill out an interest form to be the first to know when spots open.
